Kuwait National Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Team competes @afalsubah

Being a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, and having spent a significant amount of time in the Gulf, helping pioneer MMA with Al Batal, and my earlier works with GFC here in Kuwait, it is nice to see the Royalty of the country get behind a worthy cause.  Best known in the Gulf or BJJ would obviously be Abu Dhabi with its infamous ADCC, and most recently Dubai with the development of major gyms like Team Nogueria in Dubai.  Neighboring countries like Saudi and Jordan have also really seen an increase in the interest and investment into the youth and their involvement with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. H.E. Sheikh Fahad Talal Al Sabah has really started helping support the dreams and aspirations of the entire Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BJJ community here in Kuwait, and recently under his blessing formed the Kuwait Brazilian Jiu Jitsu National Team, which competes under the UAEJJF and the Jiu Jitsu Asian Union-similar to the Olympics for competition.

This weekend the Kuwait National BJJ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team is competing in the Aisan Jiu Jitsu Union’s Regional Championships for West Asia being held in Beirut Lebanon, with various countries being represented. Thanks to the work of BJJ Brown Belt Fouzan Alsabej a team of 7 Athletes will be representing Kuwait Internationally in the sport of BJJ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu,  The team members include;

62KG- Nasser Faraj

77KG -Abdulrahman Farman

85KG -Nasser Al Wattan, Abdulla Al Faraj, Mohammed Al Tubayekh,

94KG- Mohammed Ali and Emad Al Sumait

Also attending the trip is Khalid Al Saleeh the founder of Kuwait Combat Athletics who is a board member of the Kuwait National Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BJJ Team, and was in Lebanon to attend the UAEJJF official rules clinic for the 2015 season.

I haven’t had an opportunity to work with any of the members of the National Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Team members yet, but am hopeful once Kuwait Combat Athletics gets open we can cross train at the facility, giving me an opportunity to fine tune some of the transitions into their Nogi Submission Grappling Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BJJ Wrestling program.

Also competing Internationally in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BJJ representing the country of Kuwait is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blue Belt BJJ Hussain Khorsheed who will be competing in Germany as part of the North American Grappling Association NAGA event.  Having worked with Hussain during his training trip to Phuket Thailand earlier this year, and investing several Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BJJ Nogi privates with him the past few weeks, I expect him to perform well, and am anticipating him bringing home a medal representing Kuwait on the International stage in one of the most prestigious Nogi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BJJ Grappling organizations in the world.
